Deadly Lies: How Doctors and Patients Are Deceived is the debut of CF van der Horst as an author. From his background as a physiotherapist, Van der Horst became acquainted with the capabilities and limitations of doctors and medical interventions and their consequences for public health.
CF van der Horst about Health Care
Van der Horst says about his experiences: “As a student, you’re inclined to think you can cure the whole world, but in reality it turns out that you can do relatively little for a large group of people (particularly the chronic ill), and healing is definitely not part of that. Then, looking at the general trend, one sees an ever increasing incidence of chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity, to name a few, which are apparently matters where Medicine does not have an answer for, not even as to prevention. ”
Medical Training and Statistics
The author continued: “The inadequacy of current medial training shows up in statistics. According to the Global Burden of Disease Study of 2013, only 4.3% of the world population is without disease/injury or sequelae (an abnormal condition resulting from a previous disease), whereas one-third (2.3 billion individuals) has no less than five or more ailments. If public health has deteriorated to such degree, one knows that there is something structurally wrong with what our physicians are learning in their medical training. Furthermore, dietary advices are oftentimes contradictory when some sources say something is beneficial and other sources say it’s not. You no longer know what to believe. It made me curious and I wanted to find out exactly what is going on, I wanted answers and clarity.”
Van der Horst found those answers. His quest took many years of study of various health aspects of Medicine and the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and food industries as well as their lobby towards legislators and regulators. His thorough approach allowed the author to separate facts from fiction. Van der Horst: “Delving deeper into the matter, one comes across all sorts of data, and verifying them, some proved to be correct, while others plainly did not. From time to time one is baffled when an official guideline for public health proved to be false. Then one wants to understand how it is that such a guideline is accepted anyway. Further research opened a cesspit.”
CF van der Horst: Independent Viewpoint
CF van der Horst propagates an independent viewpoint: “If one wants to know how things work, one simply can not blindly accept what the media propagate, even though it is an official channel. One needs to trace the information to its source and to hard facts. At times, what one finds is hard to believe, but these findings do clarify a lot of things, pointing out connections and providing understanding what’s going on and what isn’t right and why. Then it’s becoming clear why it is that more and more people get chronic diseases and, more importantly, armed with an understanding of the ins and outs, one can reduce the risk of contracting those diseases. This, of course, is helpful not only for oneself, but also for one’s family.”
Need for Solutions
His accurate research and clear writing style make CF van der Horst a promising author. Characteristic of the writer is that he not only provides insight into and points out links between abuses in the aforementioned subjects, but also offers solutions for each. The combination of these elements turn Deadly lies: How Doctors and Patients Are Deceived into a remarkable and pleasantly readable book that will be used as a reference book by everyone to whom health is an important theme.
The name C.F. van der Horst is a pseudonym. After a long stay in the United States of America, the writer returned to the Netherlands, where he is writing more books and articles contributing to the creation of a better society.
