Privacy and Cookie Statement

General data protection regulation

We respect the privacy of visitors to our website and ensure that the personal information you provide is treated confidentially. Personal data is processed in accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) since 25 May 2018.

Purposes of data processing

Your personal data (first name and email address) will be processed by us for the purpose of offering you the free first chapter of the book Deadly Lies. How Doctors and Patients Are Deceived with the corresponding series of informative emails or any other (series of) emails of informative nature. If you fill in a contact or registration form on the website, or send us an email, the data you send us will be kept as long as is required by the nature of the form or the content of your email for the complete response and handling. Existing customers may receive emails containing information about health and any other books by C.F. van der Horst and/or other authors.

Clicking behaviour and visiting data

The website keeps track of general visiting data. In this context, in particular the IP address of your computer, any username, the time of retrieval and data sent by a visitor’s browser may be recorded and used for statistical analyses of visit and click behaviour on the website. We also use this to optimise the operation of the website.

We try to anonymize this data as much as possible. This data will not be provided to third parties.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to track how users use the Website and how effective our Adwords ads on Google search result pages are. The information thus obtained, including the address of your computer (IP address), is transferred to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Please read Google’s privacy policy for more information, as well as the specific privacy policy of Google Analytics.

Google uses this information to keep track of how our website is used, to provide us with reports about the Website and to provide its advertisers with information about the effectiveness of their campaigns. Google may provide this information to third parties if Google is legally obliged to do so, or to the extent that these third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. We have no influence on this. We have not allowed Google to use the obtained analytics information for other Google services.

Facebook and other social media

This site uses AddThis tools to provide you with the ability to share content with websites and social networks that are not affiliated with this website. By clicking on those links or sharing that content, you may share personal information with these third parties. We want to encourage you to check the privacy policies and terms of use of any websites or services before providing personal information to those third parties. For instance, one of opportunities AddThis Tools provides is a button to promote or share pages on the social network Facebook. The button is realized by code provided by Facebook itself. Among other things, this code places a cookie (see above). Please read the privacy statement of Facebook (which may change regularly) to see what they do with your personal data that they process with this code. For other social networks applies the same.

Series of emails

We offer the possibility to download the free first chapter for free with a corresponding series of informative emails and other notifications or emails. Your email address will thus only be added to the list of subscribers with your explicit consent. Each email contains a link that allows you to unsubscribe. The subscriber file for this series of emails will not be provided to third parties.

Through our website, cookies are placed by the U.S. company Google, as part of the “Analytics” service. We use this service to keep track of and receive reports on how visitors use the website. Google may provide this information to third parties if Google is legally obliged to do so, or if third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. We have no influence on this.
